Honest Limits and Non-Claims
These are the current boundaries of the theory and the project. They mark what is not yet established — not what is ruled out.
It does not yet predict.
The theory currently classifies and describes structural patterns. Prediction failure is documented in 9 of 12 domains studied. Six specific structural predictions from the Parallax Discovery Program do hold, but general predictive power is not established.
It is currently pre-theoretical.
Infotropy has formally specifiable components (the invariant family, the record definition, the persistence spectrum), but it does not yet constitute a mathematical theory in the way thermodynamics does. It organizes structure; it does not yet derive from first principles.
The seam is not yet bridged.
The origin-of-life transition — where physical persistence became record-bearing persistence — is mapped but not solved. We know it happened. We do not yet know exactly how.
It is not a third entropy.
Infotropy contains both Shannon entropy and Boltzmann entropy as regime-local quantities. It provides the grammar that connects them. It does not replace or merge them.
It is not “everything is connected.”
The record-grade classification (trace, passive record, active record) is specific enough to exclude most things. A rock persists but is not a record. The graduation is precise and principled.
Universality is not yet established.
Cross-domain convergence is a strong and growing observation confirmed across 12 domains from five independent angles. It is not yet proof that information dynamics are fundamental.
Frontiers under active investigation.
The theory was built to describe structural continuity across the persistence spectrum. It appears to have implications in several domains traditionally considered outside structural analysis. The morality work (through the CHR program) has produced convergence findings — the infotropic lens produces results about moral structure that converge with existing ethical frameworks. The religion work has produced published structural analyses. The aesthetics research has identified structural dynamics that operate across artistic domains. These areas are active frontiers with real preliminary findings, not yet fully hardened claims.
