How the loop checks itself
This is the depth layer behind "how it grew." The walk says the method matters more than any single claim; here is the method, and the receipts that it really does correct me. Read it if you want to see the checking work; skip it and the walk loses nothing.
The short version on the walk was: I use AI like a translator, the machine isn't the authority, and the weak link in the loop is me. That's true, but it skips the part that makes it trustworthy — what the checking actually consists of, and what it looks like when it bites.
Why a translator and not an oracle
I hand the AI the shape of an idea — funnel, bottleneck, record, the flip — and ask it to carry that shape into a field I don't know well. The whole trick is that the shape is mine and the field is not. If the shape is real, it lands on ground the field already knows about, and a person who knows that field can check whether it landed. If the shape is empty, it produces fluent nonsense, and that's checkable too. The machine is doing translation, not judgement. It only works because the underlying shape works — which means it can never be the thing that certifies the shape. That job stays with a human who can be wrong and can be shown wrong.
So the human isn't the smartest part of the loop. The human is the part that's allowed to fail — the place where a claim meets ground it can't talk its way out of. I'm self-taught and working without a room full of peers, so I build the peer into the process on purpose: I make the system argue against me, and I treat the moments it wins as the point, not the embarrassment. A loop with no place to lose isn't a method; it's a mirror.
The corrections, in full
Two of them changed the theory, and both are on the record because they're the receipts.
I expected a field; I got an effect. Going in, I wanted information to turn out to be force-like in the hard-physics sense — an "Infotropy field" sitting alongside the others. That isn't what held up. What survived the checking was smaller and stranger: something that behaves like an effect more than a fundamental field. I kept the honest version and dropped the one I'd hoped for, and the force-status is still held open rather than claimed. The thing I wanted lost to the thing that checked out.
I expected one master equation; there wasn't one. I half-believed there'd be a single clean formula at the bottom of everything — one chord that explains the whole piece of music. There isn't, and looking for one was the wrong shape of question. That was a relief, not a loss: a master equation would have been too tidy, and far too easy to fool myself into seeing. A theory you can't over-fit to your own hopes is sturdier than one you can.
The clearest time it caught me
The sharpest receipt isn't a tidy correction — it's a whole branch of work where the method dragged me through the part I'd have skipped. While walking a continuous record-timeline of the universe, the hardest spot was the origin of life: the exact place where things stop persisting by just being stable and start persisting by being copied. The system's instinct — and, honestly, mine — was to slide off that crack and widen out into comfortable nearby abstractions. The honest move was the opposite: stay on the seam, keep separating a real record from a mere trace, and follow the crack down until it narrowed from "the mystery of life" to one specific transition. Forcing the work back onto the hard spot, again and again, is what changed the outcome. The provenance of that is written down, flinch and all — linked below.
And the proof the winnowing is real: things get cut
A collection only counts as honest if things get thrown out of it. They do. Candidate patterns that looked good and then didn't hold up were retired — a "centralization / oscillation" pattern dropped because its swings had no predictable period, and a "signal-versus-noise" one dropped because it didn't generalize past biology. The catalogue is alive: new candidates come in, some harden, some get cut. The discarded ones are the evidence the checking has teeth, because a process that never loses a member isn't checking anything.
None of this is offered as proof — proof here isn't really on the table. It's the strongest working interpretation I have, shown with its corrections instead of hiding them, and run with because it holds up under exactly the pressure that's allowed to break it.
The receipts
The honest part is that you don't have to take the corrections on my word — the provenance is in the raw files:
